Jamaica Bay Festival – City of Water Day
Saturday, July 15th
Enjoy 39 local events in and around Jamaica Bay, including kayaking, fishing, surfing, hiking, bird watching, art, nature and more! Some of the programs include Junior Angler at Canarsie Pier (10-11:30 a.m.) and kayaking at Sebago Canoe Club (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

Floyd Bennett Field Author Talk
Two Men, Two Planes. An Epic Race Around the World
Monday, July 17th – 7 p.m.
Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy invites you to visit Floyd Bennett Field’s former terminal building (now the historic Ryan Visitor Center) for the first of two author talks on the history of New York’s first municipal airport. “Two Men. Two Planes. An Epic Race Around the World” will feature a discussion with journalist Adam Penenberg, New York City tour guide Lloyd Trufelman and aviator Jimmie Mattern’s granddaughter, Shelby Scarbrough. Listen to the harrowing story of the aviators Mattern and Wiley Post as they competed to become the first to circumnavigate the globe by plane 90 years ago this summer. Free signed books will be made available to guests by lottery.
