About Canarsie Courier

The Canarsie Courier, published every Thursday, is Brooklyn's oldest weekly newspaper covering the southeastern communities of Canarsie, Marine Park, Mill Basin, Georgetown, Gerritsen Beach, Bergen Beach, Kings Plaza, Sheepshead Bay, Flatlands, Flatbush, East New York, Spring Creek and Brownsville.

The Canarsie Courier was founded by Walter S. Patrick and Lester J. Stillwell on April 22, 1921 and then reorganized by Walter S. Patrick in 1923. The Courier continued to be published by Edward M. Herrschaft from 1935 to 1959 when it was purchased by Bob Samitz and Joe Samitz. The Samitz family ran the paper until 1998 when it was sold to Donna Marra and Sandra Greco. Donna Marra became the sole publisher in 2010.

While its focus is on the most up-to-date local community news, the Canarsie Courier also offers a variety of features for the discriminating reader, plus local sports and opinion columns.

The Canarsie Courier can be found on most newsstands in the coverage area and is also mailed to subscribers. In addition, you can also view us online at www.canarsiecourier.com
