Pre Owned Honda Brooklyn Buyers: Check These 2026 Recalls Before You Sign

October 19, 2026

The 2016–2022 Honda Pilot is covered by the 2026 rear subframe recall in New York.

A Brooklyn winter is hard on a car in ways a test drive won’t show. The salt trucks that work the Belt Parkway and Rockaway Parkway every snowfall leave brine in the seams of every undercarriage, and the potholes that open up along Flatlands Avenue by February test whatever is underneath. This year, both of those Brooklyn realities showed up in Honda recall notices.

Whatever pre owned Honda Brooklyn buyers shortlist this season, from a dealer’s used inventory or a private listing on the other side of Canarsie, a few of the 2026 recalls deserve a check before any money changes hands. They cover some of the most popular Hondas on the used market.

The recalls that matter most

In June, Honda filed a recall with federal regulators, NHTSA campaign 26V365, covering 880,514 Honda and Acura vehicles because the rear subframe can corrode at the points where the suspension mounts, a problem traced to a coating that did not meet Honda’s specifications. Corrosion there could let rear suspension parts fracture. Honda said it knew of no injuries as of late May. Dealers inspect the subframe, install a reinforcement kit, and repair or replace parts as needed, at no cost.

This recall is regional, and that is what makes it a Brooklyn story. It applies to vehicles in 22 states and Washington, D.C., the parts of the country where winter roads are treated heavily with de-icing salt, and New York is on the list, along with New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. A Pilot that spent its life in Arizona is not covered. One that has wintered on a Canarsie street is.

Two other recalls touch family Hondas. In May, campaign 26V332 covered 98,892 Honda and Acura vehicles whose front passenger seat weight sensor can crack internally, which could let the passenger airbag deploy when it should stay off for a child seat, a child or a small adult. In April, Honda recalled roughly 440,000 Odyssey minivans because a software error can make the side airbags deploy after a pothole or speed bump.

The subframe recall also covers the 2014–2020 Acura MDX, which shares much of its hardware with the Pilot.

Why a used buyer has to look it up

Recall letters go to the registered owner. If a car has changed hands, or the last owner moved, the notice may be sitting in someone else’s mailbox. The check takes a few minutes: enter the 17-digit VIN at Honda’s recall site, recalls.honda.com, or the federal lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Both show whether a recall is open or already completed.

An open recall is not a reason to walk away on its own. Safety recall repairs are done free at authorized dealers, and plenty of good cars simply haven’t been brought in yet. What matters is knowing before you sign, so the repair is scheduled rather than discovered.

What it looks like when a dealer catches it

Recall inspections at Plaza Honda are done by factory-trained technicians.

Plaza Honda, part of Plaza Auto Mall on Nostrand Avenue since 1975, saw exactly this on a trade-in this fall. The car arrived on Sept. 23, months after the May and June recalls were issued. The service department replaced the passenger seat weight sensor under 26V332 at no charge and inspected the rear subframe under 26V365 to determine what, if anything, it needed. The owner who traded it in walked away with nothing left open on the car, and whoever buys it next gets it with the recall work on record. Neither one has anything to lose sleep over.

Recall inspections and repairs at Plaza Honda are handled by factory-trained technicians with genuine OEM parts and can be booked at www.plazahonda.com/schedule-service. The service team offers pickup and drop-off across the five boroughs, used and Certified Pre-Owned cars come with a free CARFAX report, and trade-ins receive a same-day appraisal or cash offer with no purchase required.

The takeaway

Before you buy a used Honda in Brooklyn, run the VIN and ask for proof that any open recall has been done. In New York, that matters more than in most of the country, because the subframe recall only exists where the roads are salted. The lookup is free, the repairs are free, and the only expensive version of this story is the one where nobody checked.
