State Senator Roxanne Persaud and Community Partners Host Pre-Mother’s Day Clothing Giveaway

May 15, 2023

Over 200 mothers of all ages, and young children, showed up for a pre-Mother’s Day outdoor extravaganza hosted by State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud (SD 19) on Saturday, May 6th, at 1222 East 96th Street. The main attraction was the giveaway of a wide array of clothing and shoes for women and children.

The late Saturday morning celebration was clearly a respite for many guests who browsed while they enjoyed music provided by a DJ. After “shopping,” many hung around, sipped lemonade and chatted with friends. Upon exiting, each family was given a food hamper containing staples such as rice, flour, beans, milk and juice, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, all of which were donated by The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH). Several PPE items were also distributed, and various raffles were drawn at intervals. “We always like to give you a little more than what you expect,” Senator Persaud stated to the crowd.
The event was held in partnership with Millennium Development, Guyana Cultural Association, Kings Plaza, Rainbow Shops, Ashley Stewart, Shoppers World, Estee Lauder, NYC Administration For Children’s Services, NYPD and Amazon.
NYPD Explorers and many other volunteers, including Restoration Center of Hope, Brooklyn Canarsie and Brooklyn Transition Lions Club, as well as several SD 19 constituents, contributed to the seamless coordination of the event.
