SD19 Constituents Receive Food Packages At E-Recycling Event

July 21, 2022

On Friday, July 15th, over 100 pre-packaged bags of non-perishable food were distributed to constituents of Senate District 19 (SD19) at a pop-up event held in the lobby of 1222 East 96th Street. The food giveaway was made possible by State Senator Roxanne Persaud and The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH), a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating food insecurity in New York.

The pop-up food distribution was organized in conjunction with a free electronics recycling collection event set up at the same location by the senator. Constituents were handed a bag containing milk, nuts, rice, lentils and cereal, after dropping off their unwanted electronic devices at Persaud’s office, to be collected later for safe disposal.
In addition to the nutritious food, staffers distributed COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test-at-Home kits and vials of hand sanitizer, as well as resource packets containing information about services available throughout SD19. Kristine Ortiz, a summer intern at the senator’s office, along with volunteers from Restoration Center of Hope, Brooklyn Transition Lions and Canarsie Lions, assisted with collecting and storing the items to be recycled. They also signed in constituents, many of them seniors, who turned out for the food distribution.
