A vigil was held on Saturday night on the second anniversary of Pop Smoke’s death.
Although it was a frigid night, a small group of family, friends and fans of the beloved rapper gathered at East 92nd Street and Seaview Avenue to light candles and remember Bashar Jackson, whose life was cut short on February 19, 2020 during a home invasion in Los Angeles.
On his way to a promising music career, the 20-year-old hip-hop artist rose to fame with his hit song, “Welcome to the Party.” Multiple murals placed around Canarsie serve as evidence of his local fan base and are a reminder that his life was not in vain and he will never be forgotten.
