Police Looking for Third Suspect in Million Dollar Church Robbery

July 31, 2023

The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted in connection to an armed robbery that took place at the Brooklyn campus of the Leaders of Tomorrow International Churches last summer.

Two individuals – Juwan Anderson, 23, and Sayquan Pollack, 23, both of Brooklyn – were arraigned on federal robbery conspiracy and firearm charges on September 28, 2022 (see “Two Arrested in Million Dollar Church Heist,” Canarsie Courier, October 6, 2022).

The NYPD is looking for a third suspect, Shamar Leggette, 41, and have released a photo of the wanted individual.

Three armed gunmen entered the church, located at 922 Remsen Avenue, around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, during Sunday services, which were also being livestreamed (see “Canarsie Pastor Robbed During Sunday Sermon,” Canarsie Courier, July 28, 2022). The thieves stole approximately $1 million worth of jewelry, including an expensive Rolex watch, from Bishop Lamor Whitehead, the 44-year-old pastor of the church, and his 38-year-old wife.  They fled the location on foot, hopped in a white Mercedes and headed eastbound on Avenue D.  There were no injuries in the process.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this individual is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.  All calls are strictly confidential.
