Subways, Buses, LIRR and Metro-North to Run on Sunday Schedule on Labor Day

Access-A-Ride to Operate Normally Throughout Holiday Weekend

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced its service plan for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend across New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, Access-A-Ride, and Bridges and Tunnels.
New York City Transit
Subways
Subways will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, Sept. 7. There will be planned service changes in the subway system throughout Labor Day weekend. Check mta.info or the MTA app to plan your trip.
Buses
Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, Sept. 7. Riders should note some routes do not operate on Sundays or do not run on part of the route at certain hours. Bus riders are encouraged to check mta.info or the MTA app for up to the minute service information.
Long Island Rail Road
On Saturday, Sept. 5, the LIRR will operate on a normal Saturday schedule. On Sunday, Sept. 6, the LIRR will operate on a Saturday schedule.
On Monday, Sept. 7, the LIRR will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule with Montauk Branch trains running on a Sunday schedule.
The 5:13 p.m. train from Penn Station to Montauk — which historically only ran during the peak summer season — will run year-round beginning September 8, 2026, giving riders a permanent one seat ride from New York City to the East End.
Metro-North Railroad
There will be service adjustments on both the East and West of Hudson Lines for the Labor Day weekend. Check mta.info or the TrainTime app to plan your trip.
East of Hudson
Extra getaway trains will operate on Friday, Sept.4, on Metro-North’s three East of Hudson lines.
Metro-North’s East of Hudson lines will operate a normal Saturday schedule on Saturday, Sept. 5, and a Sunday schedule on both Sunday, Sept. 6, and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.
Normal weekday service resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
West of Hudson – Port Jervis Line
On Friday, Aug. 29, the 2:41 p.m. train from Hoboken Terminal to Middletown, NY will be extended to Port Jervis, making stops at Otisville and Port Jervis. The 6:14 p.m. train from Hoboken Terminal to Port Jervis will not operate.
On Monday, Sept. 7, an extra train departs Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m., making all stops through Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken, arriving at Hoboken at 6:24 p.m., with a connecting train at Secaucus Junction to New York Penn Station arriving in New York at 6:33 p.m.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Daytime scheduled construction or maintenance requiring lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 3 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel.

Access-A-Ride Paratransit
Access-A-Ride will operate normally throughout the holiday weekend.
The Access-A-Ride Command Center operates 24/7. Customers can call Access-A-Ride at (877) 337-2017or (718) 393-4999 to reserve trips one or two days in advance, book trips online at https://www.mta.info/

511 – Customers who prefer to contact the MTA by telephone, information is available by dialing 511. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can use their preferred service provider for the free 711 relay to reach the MTA at 511.
