To celebrate cherry blossom season, the Marine Park Alliance (MPA), with support from Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, invited the community to gather under the trees in the grove located at East 36th Street and Avenue U, on Saturday afternoon, April 4th, for authentic and contemporary taiko (drumming) and fue (Japanese bamboo flute) music from Taiko Masala.
The athletic and energetic performance delighted visitors who couldn’t seem to get enough of the music. Kids and adults alike were entranced by the strong rhythms and reverberating beats that make the style unique and powerful. Afterward, children were invited to join staff from the Brooklyn Public Library who read seasonal stories, played the ukulele and did arts and crafts.
The MPA donated five cherry blossoms to the grove on the day of the celebration.
