The Marine Park Oval has been in need of repair for years, and the reconstruction project finally started in late June, with the staging area in the Avenue U parking lot.
According to NYC Parks, the project will reconstruct both the inner and outer walking/bike paths, as well as several connecting paths within the park, including new asphalt pavement, bottle fillers and benches.
The project has an estimated completion date of September 2024 with an expensive price tag of $10.5 million, thanks to funding by the Mayor’s office and City Council. Work will take place on one quarter of the oval at a time over the reconstruction period.
