Marine Park — Looney Louie Brings Magic to the Playground

July 30, 2026

Vol. 106 No. 32

It was a beautiful afternoon to play at the park, but children quickly abandoned the swings and slides and gathered under the shade of trees for a fantastic magic and clown show called “Clowning Around with Looney Louie,” a “Just for Kids” event sponsored by the Marine Park Alliance on Sunday, July 26th.

Looney Louie returned to Playground 278, located at Fillmore Avenue and Madison Place, as he does every summer, to delight children of all ages with his silly antics and clever tricks in both English and Spanish.

The magician brought smiles to their faces with his juggling act, and with the help of volunteers, he performed several tricks, like filling in a blank coloring book with just a few gestures and the recitation of some magic words. He also pulled an amazing illusion by pouring milk into a newspaper cone over a volunteer’s head, which vanished completely.

Everyone had a different opinion about best part of the show. “My favorite part was when Louie wore a toilet bowl plunger as a hat and then all his magic wands were broken,” one young fan said, as she made her way to the snack station (courtesy of Target Kings Plaza) at the end of the performance. Her brother instead preferred the part where Looney Louie made Peter Rabbit move around his house and wind up someplace totally different.
