Yoga enthusiasts were excited to attend the first free yoga session of the season in Marine Park on Monday, June 15th – and to get outdoors to enjoy a beautiful, sunny night after being cooped up all winter long!
Yoga instructor Cathy Dews has been teaching the classes, which are suitable for all levels, including beginners, for more than 10 years. She has quite a following because over 40 students were in attendance the first night.
Yoga in the Park is possible thanks to Assemblywoman Jaime Wiliams, who even stopped by to participate in the class, in spite of her busy schedule.
Classes take place every Monday night at 6:30 p.m. and run until August 31st. Please note that there will not be a class on July 6th due to the 4th of July holiday weekend and America 250 celebration. However, there will be a class on Thursday, July 9th, that week.
Classes meet by the flagpole near the Carmine Carro Community Center, at 3000 Fillmore Avenue.
The classes are also possible thanks to partners like Marine Park Alliance, NYC Parks, Kings Plaza Shopping Center, Marine Park Community Association and others.
Yoga improves your flexibility and balance and is a great stress relief after a hard day at work!
Please bring a mat and water. Namaste!
