Local Neighborhood Artist Paints The Town With Holiday Cheer

December 5, 2022

Colorful holiday window displays in Southeast Brooklyn are beginning to rival those in Manhattan, as artist Joe Indart has been painting many of the businesses in the area for the upcoming holiday season.

“You make the neighborhood shine,” said one of his many fans on social media where Indart has received a multitude of appreciative praises for his work. He is a well-established artist who is known in the neighborhood through his reputation, word of mouth and on social media.

His public and private art spans the boroughs over decades, but he is especially appreciated in his hometown of Marine Park, where he resides, and in the surrounding areas.

He painted a prolific number of murals on firehouse doors, memorials, garages, schoolyards, walls and fences, but he is best known for the many  9/11 murals he painted after the collapse of the Twin Towers. His work can be found on many homes and businesses, but he can paint just about anything using a brush and airbrush technique.

The Canarsie Courier caught up with him last Thursday morning as he was painting several of the windows for the recently reopened Floridian Plaza Diner on Flatbush Avenue to learn that it was only one of a multitude of locations he had scheduled for the week.

Along Flatbush Avenue, his art can also be found at  Jack Bailey’s Bar, Lenny & John’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, Fillmore Real Estate and Food Universe.

He has decorated several windows on Quentin Road, Avenues N, S,  T and U, and Nostrand and Gerritsen Avenues in businesses like Fillmore Real Estate, Dance With Me, G&S Pork Store, TKO Chicken, Marine Park Bagels, VRC & Associates, Tops Wines and Liquors, Brenman’s Meat Market and many more. He often travels between neighborhoods in Queens, Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay and others all on the same day.

See the large assortment of paintings of Santa, Christmas trees and stockings, polar bears, red cardinals, reindeer, candy canes, snowmen, jingle bells, menorahs, holiday greetings, candles, stars and wreaths, bows and ribbons, nativity scenes and so much more while you can!
