Drivers – start your engines! The Brooklyn South Soap Box Derby was a fun day of competition and an expression of teamwork. Held on Sunday, May 17th, at Marine Park JHS 278, located at 1925 Stuart Street, the event was preceded by the JHS 278 Color Guard and Choir leading the Pledge of Allegiance and singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Then, the races began with plenty of excitement, teamwork and community spirit as the drivers cheered each other on throughout the day while their family and friends watched with anticipation hoping that their team would win!
As the races progressed, it was obvious to everyone that students used their STEM skills (learned in class) to design and build their cars. And, of course, their principals and teachers were proud of their accomplishments.
School administrators, teachers, parents, students and friends joined together in the spirit of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, which they will need to be successful in today’s and tomorrow’s AI economy!
