Police Officer Adeed Fayaz succumbed to injuries sustained in an attempted robbery, three days after the five-year veteran was shot in the head during a bogus Facebook Marketplace transaction in East New York (see “Suspect Arrested in Murder of Off-Duty Cop”).
Hundreds of mourners, including members of the 66th Precinct, where Fayaz served, lined up outside Brookdale Hospital on Tuesday, February 7th after news that the officer tragically died that day. He was off-duty at the time of the shooting and was attempting to purchase a vehicle from suspect, Randy Jones, 38, who was arrested and charged with murder and attempted robbery.
The mood was somber and pain was evident on the faces of family, friends and members of the NYPD as they watched officers walk Fayaz’s body from Brookdale to a waiting ambulance where he was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office. Fayaz was married and the father of two young children.
His funeral was held on Thursday, February 9th at the Makki Masjid Muslim Community Center on Coney Island Avenue, located within the 66th Precinct, where Fayaz worked.
