The Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department, known as the “Vollies,” held their Annual Ragamuffin Parade on Thanksgiving Day. Starting around 10 a.m. on November 24th, Woody the Woodpecker kicked off the parade, in a large truck transporting a float with everyone’s favorite characters on board. The convoy drove through the streets of Gerritsen Beach, starting on Avenue W and Plumb 2nd Street while DJ Combat played music in the rear of the truck. Scores of excited children greeted their favorite characters from various TV shows and movies. To top off the annual event, Santa Claus arrived, sitting high on top of a fire truck, waving to kids of all ages.
