September 13, 2022

Over 35 vendors, fitness classes, health and community resources, back-to-school supplies and giveaways were just some of the many resources available at the Community Board 18 Health and Back-to-School Resource Fair held on Saturday, September 10th, outside the Community Board office at 1097 Bergen Avenue.

There was also music and dancing and free pickleball lessons for those who wanted to try their hand at America’s fastest growing sport. The event was postponed from June 12th due to inclement weather, but Saturday was a beautiful day for a resource fair and many residents attended the event.
“It was a pleasure to bring information, resources and back-to-school supplies to the residents of Community Board 18. With so many vendors, exercise classes and pickleball instructions, thanks to Millennium Development, there was something for everyone,” event organizer and CB 18 District Manager Sue Ann Partnow told the Canarsie Courier.
The fair was sponsored by Kings Plaza and Millennium Development in partnership with local elected officials, including Congressman Hakeem Jeffries; Assemblywomen Jaime Williams, Monique Chandler-Waterman and Helene Weinstein; State Senators Roxanne Persaud, Kevin Parker and Simcha Felder; Councilwomen Mercedes Narcisse and Farah Louis; and District Leader Frank Seddio.
“Thank you Kings Plaza Shopping Mall for supplying the backpacks, Millennium Development for the set-up and music, Community Board 18 staff, Community Board member Valerie Woodford and Chairperson Michael Ien for all their hard work. I also want to thank our local elected officials and area residents for their support in making today a huge success,” Partnow said.
Community Board 18 covers Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Flatlands, Georgetown, Marine Park and Mill Basin. For those who would like to become more involved in their neighborhood, Community Board 18 holds monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The first meeting of the season will take place on Wednesday, September 21st at the Community Board office, 1097 Bergen Avenue.
