Clergy And Law Enforcement Observe National Faith & Blue Weekend

October 11, 2022

In observation of National Faith & Blue weekend (October 7th to October 10th), officers from the 69th Precinct collaborated with clergy members in Canarsie and conducted an outreach program intended to educate the community about, and instill trust in, law enforcement.

Similar to clergy councils that function to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, National Faith & Blue aims to be a trusted, united force with which the communities they serve could interact. The organization’s manifesto states, “Faith & Blue is based on the premise that strong communities are built through mutual respect and understanding. Law enforcement and faith institutions are key pillars of each community, and when they work together, neighborhoods thrive.”
Community Affairs Officer Samuel Maria agreed and added, “It’s always great when the community and law enforcement work together.” He and members of the 69th Precinct Clergy Council, led by Reverend Cecil Moonsam, handed out Bibles and other religious materials, as well as flyers containing information about the NYPD and many of the programs and activities that they offer.
Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse also stopped by to show support for the event.
