The joy in children’s eyes was magical as they scanned neatly displayed toys, creating a Christmastime feeling, even though the temperature was in the 90s at the Children’s Concert: Christmas in July, held on July 30th, the fifth concert in a series of Marine Park summer concerts sponsored by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams.
Attendees didn’t gather in their normal quiet, weekly concert fashion. The children’s faces broke out in grins and called loudly across the park the moment they recognized their friends. They ran to each other to share an excited greeting. It was a packed lawn with a lot of smiling and happy people.
Children ran from table to table enjoying everything that the evening had to offer while DJ Scott Yahney spun Christmas music and tunes that had all the kids dancing. There was also a book table, where every child received a book, and staff from the Brooklyn Public Library signed people up for library cards and gave away summer tote bags. Lines gathered at the East Flatbush Village, Inc.’s E.N.O.U.G.H. table where they handed out delicious ices from Ices Queens on Utica Avenue. One of the longest lines was for face painting – kids ran around cheerfully showing off their Spider-Man and sparkly butterfly faces.
Every child that attended got a raffle ticket, a chance to pick anything they wanted from the tables of toys. Williams, Kings Plaza and other sponsors helped to pack them with Power Rangers, footballs, Little People, My Little Pony, Baby Alive, paint sets and games.
During an intermission of “raffle pulling,” dancers from Elizabeth’s Dance Image on Avenue N performed for and delighted the festive crowd.
Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!
