South Shore High School Celebrates its 50th Reunion

July 23, 2024

Vol. 104 No. 30

The South Shore High School Class of 1974 celebrated its 50th Anniversary Reunion at a gala affair, held at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, on Saturday, June 29th.

The alumni had a great time reconnecting, reminiscing and sharing their journeys with each other.  Although about 80% of attendees were from the Class of 1974, students from the graduating classes of 1973, 1975, 1976 and 1977 also took part in the festivities.

There was a celebration of life tribute to 91 classmates from the five graduating classes (1973 to 1977) who are no longer with us.

The South Shore 50th Anniversary Planning Committee included Co-Chairs Dr. Renée Freeman-Butler and Andrea Singletary, Rev. Diane Neblitt-Watson (Treasurer), Evelyna Copeland, Karen Everett-Gustus, Cal Jones, George Lewis and Lynette Williams.

The reunion included a Cocktail hour, Dinner, Open Bar, Dancing, Giveaways and Loads of Fun.  Just like the song says – “Reunited and it Feels So Good!”

The Shore

Here we are 50 years later

Grateful for the favor

to come together and reconnect

At a stage of life, we would never suspect

When creating thunder in the rotunda and walking the halls of

the Shore thinking we would be that age forever more

We bared witness and ran with the quickness to the bigotry

presented but we represented symmetry with our teams,

boosters, cheerleaders

We gleamed

Staking a claim although few in number we infused our culture

Now we are seniors proud and stronger

With many our brothers and sisters, here no longer

Making this occasion a long overdue celebration

for perseverance and strength of mind

Celebrating our Brooklyn roots and the Shore ties that bind.
