A major snowstorm blanketed the area, dropping over 10 inches of snow on Sunday, January 25th, forcing NYC elementary schools to revert to remote learning on Monday.
Snow started falling around 5 a.m., dumping record snow in Canarsie and the surrounding areas, followed by sleet, causing icy conditions and limited visibility for pedestrians and motorists who were advised to avoid non-essential travel so New York’s Strongest could clear the roads.
Frigid temps, thanks to an Arctic air mass, moved in last Friday, with temps hitting 9 degrees by Saturday, with predictions for below average temperatures all week.
Canarsie Courier photographers were out and about snapping photos of the Blizzard of 2026, which was named “Winter Storm Fern.”
