Marine Park – Oh, What a Night! Scott Yahney and Friends Return to Marine Park

August 13, 2024

Vol. 104 No. 33

They say the “Third Time’s a Charm,” and they were right!  With rain predicted for July 24-25, and Hurricane Debby on the way, the fifth concert of the Marine Park Concert Series was postponed twice! But the Scott Yahney & Friends Band finally held their concert on Thursday, August 8th – another rainy night – inside the Carmine Carro Community Center, at 3000 Fillmore Avenue. Although the weather kept some people away, a large group of music lovers braved the elements and enjoyed the two-hour show.

Yahney is a local musician who lives in the Mill Basin area.  He’s a DJ and has his own 10-piece wedding band (visit faze4.com for more info).  Yahney is also responsible for the sound system used for the weekly Marine Park concerts, which are sponsored by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams.

The response to the Scott Yahney & Friends Band was so positive last summer that they returned for a repeat performance this year.  The band performed everyone’s favorite classic hits from the 60s to the present, including songs like “Oh, What a Night,” “Lady Marmalade,” “Dancing in the Moonlight” and “Crazy in Love,” ending the evening with Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”  Some of the crowd got up to dance while others clapped along to the beat and cheered and applauded loudly for the talented six-piece band.

For all of you soap opera fans, Ilene Kristen, the famous soap opera actress who had leading roles in Ryan’s Hope and One Life to Live for many years, was the surprise guest.  Kristen is not only an actress but a talented performer, who entertained the crowd with the Beatles’ song, “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Old School Thing,” an original song she co-wrote with Yahney.

The Marine Park concerts are sponsored by Marine Park Alliance, Kings Plaza and Nick’s Lobster House, among others, in coordination with State Senators Simcha Felder and Roxanne Persaud, and District Leader Frank Seddio, and in partnership with Millennium Development, NYC Parks and the Marine Park Community Association.

The next concert will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, where Jewish Singer Cantor Shea Rubenstein will be performing. Rain Date is August 15th.

All concerts take place on the lawn near the bocce courts at 7 p.m.  Bring a blanket, chair and your friends and family!  For more information, call 718-252-2124.

Front row: Singers Keva Hargrove and Kathryn Francisco, Kiki Nakajima (saxophone) and Scott Yahney (band leader, singer and keyboard). Back row: Penny Mealing (percussion) and John Adisano (guitar).
