Wuffy the loveable dog and his magic lintball stopped by the Carmine Carro Community Center, located at 3000 Fillmore Avenue, on Saturday afternoon, February 21st, to share the details of his adventurous dinosaur dig with children of all ages. This was Wuffy’s second visit to the center in Marine Park.
Helen Rogosin, retired teacher, children’s author, illustrator and creative mind behind the Wuffy book series, entertained Wuffy and dinosaur enthusiasts with her expressive tone and intrigued the audience by asking hard-hitting questions like, “What can a magic lintball do?” and “Who likes dinosaurs?”
Rogosin’s brother and a puppy that their father brought home to them inspired her to write and illustrate Wuffy and the Magic Lintball. Since then, Wuffy has become a reading adventure series, along with a plush Wuffy to match a reader’s favorite book.
Clips of Wuffy and the Dinosaur Dig played while Rogosin used her teacher-like questioning to engage young minds and enlist discussion among the group. She explained the details of the exciting endeavors that the little archaeologists would get to explore at the different stations, including a prehistoric dig where children got to use a mallet and chisel to uncover fossils, a station where they could make crayon rubbings of ancient shells, leaves and footprints, and one where creative minds could make fossil replicas with Play-Doh.
Assemblywoman Jaime Williams and representatives enjoyed the read-aloud and were spotted getting their pictures taken with Wuffy and Rogosin. Marine Park Alliance hosted this free book event for children and the young at heart. Raising Cane’s gave gift certificates for a free meal to every child that attended.
