It was a cool August evening as concert-goers unfolded their chairs to get ready for a trip back in time – that’s music time. The band – A Sound Affair – went into tune-up mode to prepare for two hours of hits from the 50s to the 80s at the August 21st concert, one of nine concerts in the Marine Park Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams.
A Sound Affair is a five-piece band consisting of a female singer, drummer, singer/saxophonist, and a bass and electric guitarist. The singers were in tip-top condition as they sang what the audience wanted – memories from way back – including favorites like “Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite” (The Spaniels) and “Where the Boys Are” (Connie Francis), to name a few. Hit after hit filled the air with clapping and cheers from the audience. As always, the sound system was superb, making the melodies easy to identify.
The Marine Park concerts are sponsored by Marine Park Alliance, Kings Plaza and Nick’s Lobster House, among others, in coordination with State Senators Simcha Felder and Roxanne Persaud, and District Leader Frank Seddio, and in partnership with Millennium Development, NYC Parks and the Marine Park Community Association.
Don’t miss the final concert of the summer, which will be Disco Night on Wednesday, August 28th. Bring your dancing shoes! Rain date is August 29th.
Before the concert, starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a “Conversation with Assemblywoman Jaime Williams” regarding public safety and issues surrounding our communities. Disco Night will start immediately after, at 7 p.m., on the lawn near the bocce courts. Bring a blanket, chair and your friends and family! For more information, call 718-252-2124.
