Kings Plaza Mall held a Caribbean American Heritage Month celebration on Wednesday, June 29th in the mall’s center court. The entire month of June is dedicated to celebrating the rich history of the Caribbean, and Kings Plaza wanted to recognize some local activists “in recognition of their countless contributions and steadfast dedication to the Caribbean community.” Awards bearing that inscription were presented to Elise St. Louis, Dr. Cheryl Barker, Jean Joseph and Dr. Una Clarke (not present at celebration). There were light refreshments provided at the event, and the evening was topped off by colorful performances, highlighting Caribbean dance and culture. State Senator Roxanne Persaud and Councilwomen Mercedes Narcisse and Farah Louis were in attendance to celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month.
