The clouds rolled away just in time for sunshine, laughter, bunny ears and a whole lot of hopping on Saturday, April 19th, in Marine Park, as families flocked to the annual, “Some-Bunny Loves You Easter Bonnet and Egg Hunt,” hosted by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams.
It was a warm and sunny springtime celebration as children and parents brought Easter spirit to Brooklyn’s largest park for an afternoon packed with fun, games and unforgettable memories.
“This is what community is all about,” Williams said, opening the festivities with a warm welcome and kicking off the classic potato sack races, much to the delight of cheering children. “There’s nothing better than seeing our kids happy, safe and surrounded by love,” she said.
The Easter egg hunt brought colorful eggs tucked into the grass as the sound of children’s laughter and jubilation filled the air.
“I’m so proud to host this day of fun, joy and unity,” Williams said. “It’s a tradition that brings our community together and puts a smile on everyone’s face — young and old.”
Children lined up — and lined up and lined up, stretching as far as the eye could see — for the popular face-painting station, where artists turned little faces into butterflies, bunnies, superheroes and everything in between — and they loved every minute of it.
Families also gathered to take Easter-themed portraits, posing in front of a vibrant and festive backdrop filled with pastel colors, spring flowers, easter egg baskets and bunny charm — creating picture-perfect memories to last a lifetime.
Kids showed off their creativity in the Easter Bonnet Competition, where handcrafted hats full of feathers, glitter and springtime flair earned big cheers and prizes.
Helping make the day a smooth success were partners and volunteers from Marine Park Alliance, Mill Basin Civic Association, Millennium Development, Marine Park Community Association, Friends of the Lott House, East Flatbush Village, Inc. and more — working hand in hand to ensure every family felt welcome and every child had a basket full of joy.
Community Affairs Officer Tom Podd had his toughest assignment yet — keeping the kids safe, smiling and sharing the satisfaction, ensuring everyone had an “eggsellent” adventure.
From games and giveaways to egg hunts and laughter, the afternoon reminded everyone that in Marine Park, community is alive, well and full of love, and it’s only the beginning of the season with warm weather yet to come.
