Vol. 105 No. 2

On Sunday, December 22nd, The Bridge Multicultural and Advocacy Project (Bridge MCP) held its Annual “Unity in Action” Holiday Celebration at 1894 Flatbush Avenue. The annual event honors individuals who have shown a strong commitment to supporting the community while also celebrating the unity of our diverse communities.

With an audience of 100 attendees, Bridge MCP Founder Mark Meyer Appel announced the honorees: Randy Peers, CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce; Dorinda Bagwell-Angelucci, Chief Executive Officer of AUX1 Media, LLC and Executive Producer of The Bridge TV Network; and NYC Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos.

Each of them addressed the audience, sharing their thoughts about the Brooklyn community in which they live and work. Appel expressed gratitude to each honoree for their ongoing support and dedication, eliciting applause from the audience.

Attendees included elected officials, community leaders, activists and residents. NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams was also in attendance, thanking the award recipients for their achievements.

Appel founded The Bridge MCP in 2013; he also serves as its Executive Director.  Its mission is to unite people of all racial, ethnic, cultural and religious groups across the city to address social issues facing society.  Appel recognized the need to develop a location that would house a multicultural advocacy center, where everyone could work together to address the needs of various communities.

The Unity  in Action event also included prayers by local clergy, live music and hot gourmet kosher and halal food.
