May is National Nurses Month, and Nurses Week was May 6th to 12th. This year’s theme, “Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime, Anywhere – Always,” honors the unwavering commitment of nurses to their patients.
On Friday, May 12th, One Brooklyn Health System/Brookdale Hospital held a special event in their auditorium, at 555 Rockaway Parkway, in honor of the great work their nurses do to help save lives every day. There were raffles and awards presented, along with the Brookdale Sings Choir and speeches by Dr. Julie Mirken, CNO of Nursing, and Keynote Speaker, Phara Forrest, RN and assemblywoman for the 57th District.
The 1199 Union held a Nurses of Distinction award event the previous week for all the nurses in their union’s 20,000 members, a very elite dignified awards event much like the Grammys!
OBH Brookdale is honored and pleased to say that out of the 20,000 nurses in 1199, their nurses took all the winning categories. This is a first time in 20 years that 1199 held this event that one hospital took all six categories!
Congratulations to each honoree:
- Advance Nurse Practice – Dr. Jacqueline Gulston
- Nurse Leader- Dr. Adurey Depree-Sealey
- Novice Nurse – Faith Akpude
- Nurse of Distinction in Hospital Setting- Hopey Ashman
- Nurse Preceptor- Scheena Tanis
OBH Brookdale nurses are simply the best!
