Legendary singer and actor, Bobby Rydell, passed away on April 5, 2022 at the age of 79.
One of the Golden Boys out of Philadelphia, along with Frankie Avalon and Fabian, Bobby Rydell became a teen idol in the late 1950s and early 1960s, with songs like “Wild One” and “Volare.” He appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand. Bobby was also the co-star in the motion picture Bye Bye Birdie along with Ann-Margret. Canarsien Jimmy Diele, host of the Celebrity Spotlight on Hamilton Radio, had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Rydell twice over the years. Diele told the Canarsie Courier, “Bobby was a great guy who was always so down to earth. He often played shows in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and all over the world – a great talent of our time. His music lives on, and he will definitely be missed.”
