Despite the extreme heat on Thursday, September 7th, State Senator Roxanne Persaud and staff pulled off another successful “Senate District 19 Senior Resource Day” at her District Office, located at 1222 East 96th Street. The event, which was free, attracted several NY State and City agencies as well as community-based organizations. Together, they provided the seniors with a wealth of vital resources including information on healthcare, medical insurance, mental wellness, Alzheimer’s research, legal services, MTA reduced fare MetroCards and much, much more.
The seniors were treated to a scrumptious BBQ lunch and “lots of hydration” as Persaud noted. They also received numerous giveaways from the vendors in addition to winning prizes from several raffles that were drawn.
The event was supported by other elected officials and held in collaboration with Millennium Development, NYPD and The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH), an agency that combats food insecurity and also donated scores of food hampers to the event.
Dozens of volunteers who comprise District 20 K 1 Lions and community members contributed to the smooth success of the event.
