What a summer of spectacular concerts! Nights with beautiful weather, great bands and getting together with friends and neighbors – what a great way to spend a Wednesday evening!
The Sound Affair, a five-piece band consisting of a drummer, singer/saxophonist, two guitarists (electric and bass) and a lead female singer on the tambourine, delighted music lovers with an eclectic collection of oldies at the final performance of the Marine Park Summer Concert Series on Wednesday, August 23rd.
The evening kicked off with citations presented to the generous sponsors of the concert series, and then Sound Affair entertained audience members with a diverse selection of popular songs like “Satisfaction” (The Rolling Stones), “My Girl” (The Temptations), “Freeway of Love – Pink Cadillac” (Aretha Franklin), “Rockin’ Robin” (Bobby Day), “The Gambler” (Kenny Rogers) and “At Last” (Etta James).
In celebration of Assemblywoman Jaime Williams’ birthday, she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and everyone sang “Happy Birthday.” Lucky raffle winners took home great prizes like a basket from Michael’s Restaurant, gift certificates for the Oasis Diner and Brooklyn Cyclone tickets.
The concerts usually end at 9 p.m., but no one wanted the night to end, so a DJ played dance music while a large group got up to dance and enjoy the final concert of the summer.
This was the seventh and final concert of the popular concert series, which is sponsored by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, Kings Plaza and Nick’s Lobster House, among others, in coordination with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, State Senator Simcha Felder, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein, Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse and District Leader Frank Seddio, and in partnership with Millennium Development, NYC Parks, Marine Park Alliance and Marine Park Community Association.
