On May 3rd, The Vandalia Older Adult Center, at 47 Vandalia Avenue, hosted the final exhibition of a new Brooklyn Arts Council SU-CASA Art Program. This video art program collaborated with 15 older adult participants to create one-of-a-kind and hilarious parody videos – and they made some incredible content! From music videos, cooking shows and skincare commercial parodies to fashion shows, gospel choirs and a fake wedding, it was nothing short of amazing! The final exhibition party included off-key karaoke contests, bingo, prizes and lots of dancing. The program was led by artists Sofia Dixon and Jaimie Warren of Whoop Dee Doo, an artist-led organization that creates live performances and immersive installations as part of an extensive and highly collaborative community engagement initiative. They have been creating projects around the country since 2006 and are opening a new space on the Brooklyn Bridge Parks waterfront in Fall 2023, where they will have free youth programs and create live shows for the community, collaborating with youth from Red Hook Art Project.
