It’s no April Fool’s joke! Although it started as a rainy, dreary morning, by the time the 13th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off in Gerritsen Beach on Saturday, April 1st, the rain was tapering off. Some might say it’s the Luck of the Irish, but the annual parade, which started on Gerritsen and Whitney Avenues, was a big success as usual.
Spectators lined Gerritsen Avenue to enjoy pipe and drum performers from the Knights of Columbus and the NYC Sanitation Department. Bagpipes filled the air, along with the sound of drums, and the lineup included marchers from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, as well as the Ladies AOH, among others. The fun continued at the AOH hall following the parade.
This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held in memory of Tom and Dolores Donovan, and Jim Marchese served as Grand Marshal. Larry Vinson was honored as “Irishman of the Year.”
