“Give Back Block Party” Gives Back To The Community

July 14, 2022

On Saturday, July 9th, The Williams-Daniels Family Foundation hosted a “Give Back Block Party” filled with tons of fun and food for all. The event was held at Hamilton Metz Field on East New York Avenue, between Albany and Kingston Avenues.

From the motorcycle parade from 3 Wheel Jay and 95 North to the karate demonstration and on-the-spot class offered by Mormando Martial Arts, it is safe to say EVERYONE had a great time.
There was an appearance by the community’s 43rd Election District State Committee/District Leaders Sarana Purcell and Edu Hermelyn. The children participated in a dance and hula hoop contest as well as a potato sack race where prizes were won. There were also four bicycles raffled off as well as two $500 scholarships for college students. Our high school scholarship winner is Daniel Singh of the Bronx. He will be attending Providence College. The college winner, Makeda Knight of Brooklyn, is a sophomore at Hunter College.
To highlight various small businesses in the community, there were several vendors showcasing their businesses.
Before we capped off the event, we had a brief moment where we honored all the people that were lost due to the pandemic with a ceremonial balloon release and then gave out backpacks with school supplies to all of the children.
Everyone was a “Winner” on Saturday!
