Kiwanis Club Hosts Elvis Fundraiser to Benefit Kids

The Kings Plaza-Canarsie Kiwanis Club hosted a “Night with Elvis” fundraiser at Nick’s Lobster, located at 2777 Flatbush Avenue, on Friday evening, May 2nd.

The Kings Plaza-Canarsie Kiwanis Club is one of more than 14,000 local chapters of a greater, worldwide organization, dedicated to improving the lives of children in local communities. On Friday night, the group invited supporters to revel in an evening of fine dining and live music, by renowned Elvis entertainer, Lamar Peters. The evening’s proceeds helped support the Maimonides Pediatric Trauma Center, the only accredited pediatric trauma center in Brooklyn, providing round-the-clock emergency care to children with the severest of injuries.

Between plates of pasta and fresh cooked seafood, guests enjoyed Peters’ uncanny renditions of hit songs like “Suspicious Minds,” All Shook Up,” “Burning Love” and ”The Wonder of You.” In fact, the music was so good, a few young Elvis fans were dancing along in the back of the room.

One die-hard, 10-year-old fan, Bennett Silver, was even invited up to sing along with “The King.”  How does a 4th-grader attending P.S. 312 get to be an Elvis fan?  Silver told the Canarsie Courier that he credits his mother and uncle for “turning him on to rock music.”  In fact, he wants to be a rock star one day.  He may be on his way already – he plays the guitar and drums and is a member of his school band, and he certainly was not shy when he got up to perform!

Good food, good music and a good cause made the Kiwanis fundraiser a great success.
